Privacy Policy for Plunge
Last Updated: June 14, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Plunge interacts with your browser data. Our core philosophy is simple: we believe in maximizing charitable donations, not collecting user data.
To function, the Extension must analyze the webpages you visit to identify when you are on a checkout page. However, all data processing happens strictly locally on your device, and we do not collect, store, or sell any of your personal information.
1. What Data We Access and Why
To detect when you are about to make a purchase and suggest a donation alternative, the Extension requires the <all_urls> permission. Here is exactly how this permission is used:
- URL Monitoring: Our
content.jsscript reads the URL of the active webpage to check for keywords indicating a shopping cart (e.g., "checkout" or "cart"). - Page Content Scanning: The Extension reads the visible text on the page (
document.body.innerText) specifically to locate currency amounts and calculate your cart total.
This scanning process happens entirely locally on your device. The Extension acts like a pair of glasses, simply looking at the page to trigger our donation popup.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect, Store, or Transmit
We prioritize your privacy. The Extension does not track you. Specifically:
- No Data Collection: We do not transmit your browsing history, the contents of your shopping cart, personal identifiers, or financial information to any external database or server.
- No External Tracking: We do not use analytics, tracking pixels, or third-party trackers within the Extension.
- No Data Selling: Because we do not collect any data, we have no data to share or sell to third parties.
3. How Data is Used
When the Extension successfully identifies a checkout total, that numeric amount is used solely to populate the user interface of our popup. If you choose to explore donation options, the Extension passes that final numeric amount via a URL parameter to open the Plunge web app. No other context about your browsing or shopping session is transferred.
4. Third-Party Websites and Charities
Our Extension exists to redirect you to third-party charitable organizations (e.g., Make-A-Wish) or our web application. Please note that once you click a link and leave your current shopping page, you are subject to the privacy policies and payment processing terms of those external websites. We do not facilitate the actual donation transactions and do not have access to your payment details.
5. Changes to This Policy
If we ever update the Extension's code to require new permissions or handle data differently, we will update this Privacy Policy and notify users through the Chrome Web Store.
